I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and again). There’s more to life than what meets the eye. That the truth of who we are as humans is far bigger than we can imagine. It then goes without saying that there’s more to our history than what meets the eye.
We are taught that civilization began around 5000 years ago in the Sumer region. Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome have a heavy rotation in history classes. At least the ones that I’ve been in.
But over the years I’ve come across new perspectives on our past. New information that theorizes there was a highly advanced ancient civilization (and even civilizations) before traditional history gets started. Long, long before.
I know what you’re thinking. That all this Covid conspiracy talk is all that you can handle these days and maybe you can’t take another challenge to mainstream narratives. But sorry, I’m going to go there because empirical data is coming to light that is getting harder and harder to ignore.
And if you have come across lost civilization theories before I invite you to continue reading to get a refresher and to also get an interesting twist that I don’t think most people have heard about.
Okay, so there are many thought leaders that delve into this subject but the stand out for me is Graham Hancock, a British author specializing in theories on ancient civilization. What I love about him is that he isn’t afraid of controversy. His book Fingerprints of the Gods was his breakout success (which I admittedly haven’t read) and here is a quote from him discussing the crux of the book’s message on Gaia’s “Disclosure with David Wilcock” in 2015:
“We are a species with amnesia. That there has been a major forgotten episode in human history. And we are not taking that forgotten episode into account in our understanding of who we are and why we are here. That that has been buried, partly as a result of global cataclysmic events, 12, 980 years ago or thereabouts, and partly because there are forces at work in our society that don’t want that information known. That want the idea of a simple, linear development from primitive, stone age, hunter gatherers through settled civilization to us the apex and pinnacle of the human story. And if you’re committed to that timeline then it’s very annoying to discover that there was an earlier episode of civilization when humanity did achieve a very high level which was brought catalclysmically to an end. So massively and so severely, as Plato put it that mankind had to begin again like children with no memory of what went before.”
A catch phrase he consistently drops is “things just keep getting older”.
Here’s a quote from his conversation with Brian Rose on “London Real”:
“The problem is new evidence keeps coming out which can’t be explained by the existing historical model. New evidence that just doesn’t fit the picture. And my sense is this evidence is now becoming overwhelming. We’re reaching a tipping point. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year but within our lifetimes we’re going to see a completely new understanding of the past, a radical revisioning of the past, therefore of our place in the world as well.”
And it seems like the sooner we accept this new evidence the better because there is a lesson from past that we need to learn. If we don’t we could end up making the same mistake again. Just recently Graham posted this on Facebook:
“My books explore the possibility of lost advanced civilization of the Ice Age. Myths say the gods destroyed it because it became greedy, conceited, arrogant and cruel. Looking around the world today, I note with concern that the “advanced”, technological nations of the 21st century tick all the boxes for the next lost civilization. It’s not too late to make a change of direction. The choices is ours, and always has been.”
Atlantis is one such lost civilization Graham Hancock refers to. I think most people have heard of Atlantis but if for some reason you haven’t here’s a wee recap: apparently it was an advanced, prosperous civilization that eventually became corrupt and then suffered a great flood that decimated it.
Another fascinating aspect of Graham Hancock’s work is that he talks about altered states of consciousness and the use of psychedelics. As if questioning mainstream history isn’t rocking the mainstream boat enough. His 2013 Ted Talk included him sharing his own journey with Ayahuasca and it was presumably removed from Ted’s archive because they claimed it to be unscientific in ways and that he was too candid about the effects of psychedelics on consciousness.
He spoke about ancient civilizations and psychedelics at the Glastonbury Festival in 2016 and said that he doesn’t really know of an ancient cilivization that achieved a high level of functioning which didn’t use psychedelics and that they were widely used in the ancient world. He says psychedelics have been central to human culture right from the beginning which I find intriguing and he goes on to say:
“There’s a moment when a light seems to go in ancestors heads all around the world. And they start producing art that is definitive of visionary experiences. They are depicting visionary experiences. And that’s the moment that we get this huge step forward in the evolution of human behavior. We were already anatomically modern but the software wasn’t there. It looks like it was psychedelics that provided the software that brought about modern human consciousness. We are now in a process of reversion from that. We need to correct that course. We need to return to the course of expanded consciousness, of dissolved boundaries, of openness to the universe and to the spirit of love and nurture which is fundamental to the human experience.”
Now I’m going to make an assumption and say that most people have most likely heard of Graham Hancock’s work but I’m pretty sure they haven’t heard of Barbara Hand Clow. Per her website she’s the author of many books covering astrology, healing, alchemy, past life therapy, and the Mayan Calendar.
I’ve read some of her work and what stands out is “Catastrophobia”. Essentially it talks about a series of cataclysmic disasters around 11,500 years ago that left humanity’s psyche permanently scarred and that we have unprocessed fear from these events that is being passed down from generation to generation.
And if you’re wondering how trauma is passed down through the generations I suggest you read Mark Wolynn’s book, “It Didn’t Start with You – How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How To End The Cycle”. It’s a fascinating read about how unprocessed family trauma, if not dealt with, is passed down through family lines. And it also talks about ways to heal.
So we are a species not only of amnesia but also one essentially suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?!!! It’s hard enough getting people to believe in a revised past, how the heck are we then going to get everyone on board with working to heal the collective from PTSD brought on by an ancient global cataclysm?
It seems like remembering our past, whatever that might be, isn’t just about discovering a history long forgotten simply for the sake of knowing there was more. It’s deeper significance lies in how that past affects us now be it in our conscious behavior or our subconscious beliefs and the sooner we start recognizing where we came from the sooner we can start living more authentically and powerfully.

Graham’s interview on “Disclosure with David Wilcock” in 2015 can be found on gaia.com. You do need a subscription to watch this but I do believe they offer free trials. NOTE: I gather that David Wilcock had a falling out with Gaia and no longer works with them but certain shows of his still air on their site.
